The Past, Present, and Future of CCTV & Video Surveillance

Security cameras are a way for you to be able to keep an eye on your business and facility when you are not there. Employers use cameras as a protection against internal theft and external events, including those by criminals and acts of nature. Historically, cameras have been used to capture events before they happen and after they occur. However, Sonitrol is changing the game with video verification.

Before the event: Prevention.

Placing cameras both inside and outside your facility can act as a powerful deterrent. Customers, vendors, visitors, and employees tend to “be on their best behavior” when they know they are being watched.

After the event: Reaction.

Recorded video surveillance footage allows employers, management, and business owners to review footage at their facility the next day, week, or month. They have the ability to review past events to look for criminals, monitor employee performance, and look for opportunities to improve efficiency and security. Because of the nature of recorded video, any action taken is in response to an event captured on cameras.

However, with Sonitrol’s premier video verification, now we can view these alarms in real time and take immediate and swift corrective action.

During the event: Protection.

With Sonitrol’s Video Verification monitoring, operators can confirm a crime in progress when an alarm is triggered at your facility. Instead of using cameras to prevent crime before it happens or review footage of a break in after the fact, verified video can confirm if a crime occurs in real time and dispatch law enforcement to the scene.

Meet the Technical Team at Sonitrol of Silicon Valley

In our next “Meet and Greet” installment, we selected two members of our technical team who are involved with the installation and service of your Sonitrol security system.
This month, we chatted with Oscar De La Herran, our Technical Engineering Manager. Oscar’s primary function is to provide technical support to several Sonitrol departments, including service, install, sales, and project management. Additionally, Oscar interacts with customers as part of the installation process, answering common questions about system design, usage, and overall specifications. When talking with Oscar, he shared with us what this career means to him:

“I really enjoy what I do. Every job is different, so it never gets boring. My greatest satisfaction is when a new system gets installed and the customer is happy with the results. It makes you feel good – like you’ve accomplished something and it’s well worth the effort.”

We also sat down with Ken Driscoll, who is approaching his 12 year anniversary this October at Sonitrol of Silicon Valley. On a day-to-day basis as a Service Technician, Ken troubleshoots technical issues, and makes repairs to Sonitrol systems, including intrusion, access control, camera, and fire systems. Additionally, Ken performs fire inspections and investigations for Sonitrol customers.
