Sonitrol's Top Tips to Safely Enjoy Summer Fireworks
The upcoming Independence Day holiday is a day of celebration, which often culminates in beautiful firework displays.
While it can be fun to watch the colorful show among the stars, it’s important to take extra precautions to be safe and secure when handling or being around fireworks.
According to the NFPA, fireworks account for more than 18,500 fires each year, including 1,300 structural fires and more than 16,900 outside and other fires, which results in an annual average of $43 million in damages.
Tip 1: Leave it to the professionals. The top way
to stay safe and keep your property secure is to enjoy fireworks at professional shows. There are several cities throughout the Bay Area, including San Jose,
that have scheduled firework displays and festivities throughout the holiday weekend.

Tip 3: Always use fireworks in open areas outdoors, away from buildings, cars, and trees. Consumer fireworks can be unpredictable and can land on roofs or get stuck in landscaping. The key word in fireworks is ‘FIRE‘, so set off fireworks away from anything flammable, and always keep a hose, bucket of water, or fire extinguisher available in the event of a fire.

Last week, operators heard suspicious sounds at a local business and immediately dispatched police.
San Jose PD apprehended the criminal while he was still inside the building! The intruder even tore the keypad off the wall, but Sonitrol’s unique audio verified technology is quicker and smarter.
