Summer Security & Safety with Sonitrol

The upcoming Independence Day holiday is a day of celebration, which often culminates in beautiful firework displays. However, it’s important to take extra precautions to be safe and secure when legally handling or being around fireworks.

We’ve shared some of our top ideas for managing your Sonitrol system over the holidays, and below are some key stats and safety tips to have an enjoyable weekend!

  • According to the National Safety Council, fireworks start an average of 18,500 fires each year, including 1,300 structure fires. If you are in a place where it is legal to set off fireworks, always launch fireworks one at a time away from buildings and structures.

  • Brush, grass, and forest fires accounted for nearly 60% of fireworks fires. Always keep a hose or bucket of water nearby to douse any embers or still active fireworks.

  • Download these great graphics and resource sheets from the National Fire Protection Associationto share with family, friends, and employees about firework risks and how to enjoy them safely.

Test your Sonitrol fire system before the holiday weekend.

Even with the best prevention, accidents still happen. Test and confirm your fire system is in working order so Sonitrol operators can dispatch quickly in the event of a fire.

Let Sonitrol know of any loud celebrations in your area.

The Sonitrol audio intrusion system is designed to hear threatening sounds and catch criminals before they gain entry. If there are loud fireworks near your facility, let operators know in advance so they can assess any alarms appropriately.

Update your call lists/office hours with Central Station.

Inform Sonitrol Operators if key account holders will be out of office or unreachable over the holiday weekend. If your office hours will be different this weekend, operators can adjust your door lock times.
